A private airport in Kansas City was smashed by a storm which saw planes flipped over and hangers wrecked.

One hangar at the Johnson County Executive Airport in Olathe was completely destroyed and at least five more were damaged in the violent weather.

The airport is closed while damage assessment and cleanup are underway.

It is not known how many aircraft were damaged or destroyed.
