Germany’s women won gold in the 6×4-km relay at the biathlon world championships on Friday in Hochfilzen, Austria.

Vanessa Hinz, Maren Hammerschmidt, Franziska Hildebrand and Laura Dahlmeier combined forces to hold off a late challenge from Ukraine and France for the win.

Dahlmeier was leading comfortably on the anchor leg until she missed the target twice in the final standing shooting.

That gave France’s Marie Dorin-Habert and Ukraine’s Olena Pidhrushna a shot at a late comeback in the final few kilometres.

But 23-year-old Dahlmeier held strong to cross over first and celebrate her fourth gold of these championships.

Ukraine pipped France to silver.

Dahlmeier now has the chance to win a fifth title – and a sixth medal, in Hochfilzen when she takes part in the mass start on Sunday.
