Organisers wanted no repetition of the July terrorist massacre when Nice last had an open-air party, so the route was changed and security was extra-tight.
The French Mediterranean tourists’ playground of Nice has been celebrating its annual carnival, which has changed its route to avoid the Promenade des Anglais, scene of a deadly Islamic militant attack last July that killed 86 people and injured more than 400.
Security was tight, with organisers claiming they had reproduced airport-like security in the town, with barricades erected to prevent any vehicle access to the parade route.
