Fireman have erected a second protective metal cage to support the facade of Norcia Basilica in central Italy.

Most of the 13th century structure was destroyed in last year’s earthquakes with just the front of the building remaining.

The positioning of the cages should make it safe enough for work to begin on retrieving artworks which remain buried in the rubble.
