Eight-times African champion Sarra Besbes defeated Russia’s Violetta Kolobova to claim the women’s individual epee title at the Doha Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Tunisian was in fine form in Qatar and leading up to the final had won all her matches by at least a three-point cushion.

As it turned out Besbes was equally impressive in the showpiece fight.

The 2015 World bronze medallist and world number four dispatched her Russian opponent 15-8 to celebrated her first career Grand Prix title.

For 25-year old Kolobova, the 2015 European champion, it was her best finish at a Grand Prix event.

The bronze medals went to semi-finalists Ewa Nelip from Poland and China’s Nuo Xu.

It was the second of nine Grand Prix this season with the next taking place Cancún, Mexico next week.
