Real Madrid entertained Olympiacos Piraeus in the Spanish capital on Wednesday night to kick-start the new EuroLeague season.

The competition boasts a new format this term and features 16 teams all playing in one group stage phase with a double round-robin.

The top eight teams will then play in a best-of-five playoff round for qualification to the Final Four.

Real Madrid are looking to extend their record with a 10th title this campaign and they got off to an ideal start on home court.

Sergio Llull was on fire for the Spaniards and scored a game-high 22 points – 15 of which came in the first quarter.

Teenage sensation from Slovenia Luka Doncic added 11 points and Jaycee Carroll chipped in with 10 for the hosts.

It was a tight tussle between the two competition heavyweights but Real Madrid finished strongly to begin their new EuroLeague season with an 83-65 victory.
