Brazilian police have pulled two US Olympic swimmers off a plane at Rio airport for questioning.

They were part of a group of four swimmers, including gold medalist Ryan Lochte, who claimed they were robbed at gunpoint in a taxi in the city on Sunday.

Team USA members Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were stopped as they tried to board a flight home after doubts were raised about their account.

Authorities have queried video footage which apparently showed the swimmers in good spirits after the alleged mugging. Olympic Village X-ray machine records also suggest the men were carrying belongings they claimed had been stolen.

Lochte has already returned to the US, while the pair’s other teammate James Feigen, is reported to be communicating with Brazilian authorities. His exact whereabouts, however, still remain unclear.
