Militants in Syria shot down a military helicopter near Palmyra on Friday, killing two Russian pilots – according to Russian media, quoting the defence ministry.

Video footage published on Saturday by the news agency Amaq, which has links to the so-called Islamic State (ISIL) militant group, showed a helicopter being hit and crashing to the ground.
