Benedikt Wagner celebrated his first individual continental title after winning the men’s sabre at the European Championships in Torun, Poland

The 26-year-old German, who won team gold at the 2014 world championships, beat Vincent Anstett from France in the final.

Wagner prevailed 15-13.

Simona Gherman led a Romanian one two in the women’s Epee competition.

In the showpiece dual the 31-year-old beat her compatriot and 2008 Olympic silver medalist Ana Maria Popescu 9-5

It was Gherman’s second individual European crown after reigning supreme in 2012.
