Security has been stepped up in Venezuela’s second city Maracaibo after looting prompted by shortages of basic goods.

There were reports of at least 30 small protests on Tuesday night that resulted in looting of various shops and pharmacies as well as some vehicles being set alight.

National Guard officers and riot police were deployed around the city,
