Pope Francis launched his own Instagram account on Saturday with astonishing success, acquiring over a million followers on the photo-sharing app within hours.

The Vatican’s social media department will run the account for Francis who has said he does not know how to use a computer and has recommended banning smartphones from the dinner table.

In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI launched the first papal Twitter account which was continued by his successor, Pope Francis.

The 79-year-old pontiff tweets in nine languages and has over 26 million followers.
