Ainslie, the four-time Olympic gold medallist went into Sunday’s three double points races topping the standings after Saturday’s competition.
His Land Rover team rebounded from a disappointing start to finish second in the opening race of the day but two penalties for being on the wrong side of the start line meant they posted a fourth and third in the final two races.
But the results went their way to give the team victory just fractions ahead of the defending champions Oracle Team USA.
The World Series is the first stage of the competition in the 2017 America’s Cup. The next round of racing is in New York in May.
