Gianni Infantino has become hot favourite to replace Sepp Blatter as President of football’s world governing body FIFA after he received the unanimous backing of South America’s football confederation CONMEBOL.
UEFA, of which Infantino is the secretary general, had already given its full support for the 45-year old while the Central American Football Union announced that it would cast its seven votes for him.
The announcement from the scandal-hit CONMEBOL comes two days after Alejandro Dominguez of Paraguay was elected as its fourth president in three years of turmoil.
The FIFA presidential elections take place on February 26.
