He was on home soil, but not everyone was feeling friendly towards Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy during an election campaign event on Wednesday (December 16).

A young man struck the premier in the head as he canvassed in his home region of Galicia. His glasses were knocked off, but he said he was otherwise unharmed.

Police confirmed the suspected perpetrator was a minor. He was later arrested, amid cheers from gathered crowds.

Rajoy’s ruling People’s Party is pegged to win Sunday’s general election, despite governing during one of the worst economic slumps in decades.
