The 42-year-old, who spent 11 years playing at Old Trafford earning the nickname the baby faced assassin, has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with a club he also played for.
He coached Molde for three years, winning the Norwegian tPremier League title twice, before taking the reins at Cardiff City in 2014. However his spell with the Welsh side lasted only 14 months.
His appointment comes just a day before the reigning Norwegian champions take on Celtic in the Europa League’s Group A.
