Germany’s number one carmaker Volkswagen is in deep trouble in the USA after Californian authorities ordered the recall of half a million cars because they had been fitted with illegal software to cheat emissions tests. The software made it appear the cars were up to 40 times cleaner than emissions regulations allowed.
