At around 4AM EST ( 2AM GMT), the comet 67p/Churyumov-Gerasimenko will be the closest to the Sun since the European Space Agency mission Rosetta reached it last year. This trip close to the sun, called a perihelion, is likely to lead to observations of tremendous scientific interest as the Sun’s heat will melt and crack the comet, revealing its inner secrets.
