Imre and Fiamingo strike Epee gold at world champs

Two-time Olympic medallist Geza Imre struck Epee gold at the fencing world championships in Moscow on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old Hungarian was up against one of the discipline’s finest French Gauthier Grumier.

In a tight affair Imre won through by a single strike – 15-14.

Denmark’s Patrick Jorgensen and Korean Seung Hwa Jung won bronze.

Italian number one Rossella Fiamingo celebrated success in the women’s epee contest.

The left hander from Catania defended the title she won last year by thrashing Sweden’s Emma Samuelsson in the Russian capital.

In a lopsided affair 24-year-old Fiamingo lunged to the top of the podium courtesy of a 15-5 victory.

Anqi XU of China and Tunisia’s Sarra Besbes claimed bronze
