A suicide bomb attack at a Shi’ite mosque in Kuwait City has left several people dead.

The group calling itself Islamic State says it was behind the attack.

The blast came during Friday prayers at the Imam Sadiq mosque in the neighbourhood to the east of the centre of Kuwait City.

Eyewitnesses say there were up to 2,000 people in the building at the time of the explosion.

At least 13 people have been killed and many more injured.
Sunni-governed Kuwait has a large Shia minority, which IS considers to be heretics.
