England’s Football Association has formally charged Italy and Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

On its website it said:
“It is alleged the Liverpool player breached FA Rule E3 in that his
posting was abusive, and/or insulting, and/or improper.”

The latest scandal to hit the high-profile footballer whose playfulness often gets the better of him, came after he posted this which he maintains was intended to make a comment about the foolishness of racism.

After he was accused in turn on social media of being racist and anti-semitic Balotelli tweeted a reminder that his adoptive Italian mother is Jewish. He says he intends to go before the FA with evidence of the racism he says he has suffered from as a player.

If found guilty he could be suspended for as many as five games.
