The former eastern German state of Thuringia looks set to lower the curtain on 24 years of Conservative rule with the swearing-in
on Friday of the Left Party’s Bodo Ramelow as State Premier.
The no-nonsense former trade unionist who grew up in West Germany will lead a coalition with the Greens and centre-left SPD. He is the first leftist state leader since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
