The first video footage of the stricken vessel of Danish Team Vestas Wind was released on Tuesday by the Mauritius coastguard.

The crew of nine sailors was forced to abandon their yacht after they hit a reef in the Indian Ocean during the second leg of the round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race on Sunday.

The team, who were fourth in the seven-boat race at the time of the grounding, were directly assisted by fellow competitors Team Alvimedica before being rescued by local coast guard authorities some 230 nautical miles northeast of Mauritius. .

Attempts to salvage the boat are reportedly underway with the team hoping to make repairs in order to continue the race.
