The fight for the Formula One world title between the two Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, reached new heights in Belgium but it was Daniel Ricciardo who came out on top.

Australian Ricciardo might have celebrated his third win of the season at the Belgium Grand Prix but the big winner at Spa-Francorchamps was Rosberg who finished second.

Fighting for first place with Hamilton, he couldn’t avoid contact during the second lap and left his team-mate out of contention.

With any chance of points gone, 2008 world champion Hamilton retired with five laps remaining.

Finland’s Valtteri Bottas grabbed the last place on the podium in his Williams-Mercedes.

Spanish double world champion Fernando Alonso was far from his best and the Ferrari driver finished seventh.

Rosberg now has a 29 point advantage over Hamilton. Ricciardo is some way off, but has won the last two races to keep his dreams alive.

In the constructors, Mercedes has the world title pretty much wrapped up as with seven races left this season they are 157 points clear of Red Bull.
