Annecy is the French candidate bidding to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The Alpine town’s proposal centres around two lead venues – Annecy and Chamonix Mont Blanc – lying less than an hour apart and directly connected by a special train and a motorway.

Chamonix Mont Blanc, home of the first Winter Olympic Games in 1924, will host the alpine ski competitions as well as the ice hockey events.

The bobsleigh, luge and skeleton events will take place at La Plagne, while the ski jump events will be organised at La Clusaz.

According to its organisers, Annecy 2018 is a bid determined by the obligation for sustainable development. The ambition of the bid is to organise games that will leave a positive ecological footprint.

The winning city will be chosen by the International Committee in Durban on July 6.
