Iran’s government may begin cutting water supply at night in Tehran as the capital faces its worst shortage in decades, with dam levels at historic lows.

Iran’s energy minister has warned that authorities may reduce water pressure to zero during some nights in Tehran as the city faces a worsening water crisis.

President Masoud Pezeshkian says dam reservoirs supplying the capital have dropped to their lowest levels in 60 years, with some holding less than 10% capacity.

Tehran, home to over nine million people, is enduring its sixth consecutive year of drought, threatening both drinking water supplies and hydroelectric power generation.
