Video. 5,000 drones turn China’s night sky into a giant light show

A fleet of 5,000 drones forms fighter jets, robots, planes and horses over Nanchang as China marks National Day with a spectacular night show.

A fleet of 5,000 drones filled the night sky over Nanchang in Jiangxi province on Thursday, forming images including an aeroplane and a humanoid robot kicking a football.

Large crowds gathered along the riverbanks to watch the performance, with many spectators filming the show on their phones.

The display was part of the city's National Day celebrations and one of many events held across China to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

A spectacular lightshow illuminated Dubai's Burj Khalifa on Thursday to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Tourists gathered to watch the show, with some saying the images had inspired them to visit China.

Overseas Chinese residents in the UAE also attended, sending their wishes for health and happiness to people in China during the week-long National Day holiday, known as Golden Week.
