Video. Brussels residents cool off in fountains as heatwave grips Belgium

People flocked to fountains in Brussels' Parc du Cinquantenaire as temperatures climbed during a heatwave expected to intensify later this week.

Residents and visitors in Brussels sought relief from soaring temperatures on Monday by cooling off in the fountains of Parc du Cinquantenaire.

Families, groups of friends and even dogs were seen splashing in the water as Belgium experienced another spell of hot weather. Temperatures are expected to continue rising throughout the week, with forecasts predicting highs of up to 35C.

Some people enjoying the fountain also expressed concern about the growing frequency of extreme heat events across Europe.
