A major fire ripped through the Grandes Alpes hotel in Courchevel on Tuesday evening, forcing the evacuation of nearly 300 people from the luxury ski resort.

Firefighters were called around 7 p.m. as flames spread quickly through the roof spaces of the five-star property. By Wednesday morning, more than 100 firefighters, backed by around 60 vehicles and reinforcements from neighbouring departments, were still working to contain the blaze in snowy conditions.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries from thick smoke but no guests or staff were hurt, local officials said. The cause of the fire remains unknown and investigators will move in once the site is safe.
