Updated:

More than two dozen people were killed and hundreds left homeless after powerful tornadoes and storms tore through parts of Kentucky and Missouri over the weekend.

Kentucky bore the brunt of the devastation, with at least 19 confirmed dead after a tornado levelled homes and left vehicles strewn across streets.

Ten people remain critically injured, and officials warned the death toll could rise.

At least seven people were killed in neighbouring Missouri, while the severe weather also triggered tornadoes in Wisconsin

Despite widespread destruction, the threat is not over — forecasters warn more severe weather may arrive early in the week.
