Hundreds of Peruvians protested on the streets of downtown Lima on Wednesday against the government and its failure to tackle rising crime, as world leaders arrived in the Andean country for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum.

Hundreds of Peruvians protested in Lima against the government’s failure to address rising crime, as global leaders arrived for the APEC Forum. Demonstrators also condemned the police violence that killed 60 civilians during protests in December 2022 after former President Castillo’s removal.

Despite President Dina Boluarte’s promises to curb crime, violence persists along with intensifying public discontent. Some protesters burned flags and clashed with police, using the high-profile summit as an opportunity to draw international attention to Peru's struggles.
