ROME (Reuters) - Italy is seeking a reform of European Union budget rules in order to foster economic recovery, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Tuesday.
"We want to review the Stability and Growth Pact so that EU rules help growth and sustainable development in Italy and the whole of Europe," Conte said during a debate in the upper house Senate.
Senators are due to hold a vote of confidence later on Tuesday in Conte's new government made up of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement and the pro-Europe Democratic Party (PD) -- the last hurdle it needs to overcome before it can formally take office.
