China's first 100MW solar power plant turned on

The first 100MW solar plant in China started operating on Friday.

The plant covers a field of 7.8 square kilometers with a heat-absorbing tower rising 260 meters into the air.

China's first 100MW solar power plant was put into operation on Friday in Dunhuang City of northwest China's Gansu Province.

The plant can generate up to 390 million kWhs of electricity per year.
