A small airplane made an emergency landing on a popular, crowded beach near Lisbon on Wednesday. Two people were killed.

A small plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a busy beach in Almada, south of Lisbon, on Wednesday, killing two people.

The plane came down on Sao Joao da Caparica beach, hitting a 30-year-old man and a five-year-old girl, according to Portuguese reports. The two pilots on board were unharmed and were being questioned by authorities.

An eyewitness shared photos of a crowd forming around the plane.

Sao Joao de Caparica beach is one of the closest to Lisbon and draws big crowds in August, when the Portuguese take their main summer holidays.
