Protest camp cleared by Hamburg police ahead of G20

German police cleared a protest camp in Hamburg on Sunday (July 2) as anti-globalisation activists tried to stay overnight in a park ahead of next week’s G20 summit in the city.

Tents were taken down and some protesters were arrested.

Earlier on Sunday around 10,000 demonstrators marched peacefully in the rain in a prelude to the July 7-8 gathering, where 21,000 police from across Germany will protect the meetings of the world’s 20 largest economies.
