Did you see pictures of Japan’s tsunami? Media play an important role in disasters and accurate media reporting is vital for entire populations. Award-winning author Eric Klinenberg is one of our experts on disasters. He has written books on the impact of media on disasters and he contributes to the “Katrina Research Hub”.

Eric Klinenberg is Professor at New York University’s Department of Sociology. He also runs the NYU Urban Studies seminar and contributes to SSRC’ ‘Media Research Hub’ and its Katrina Research hub’.
His first book, Heat Wave: A Social Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago won six scholarly and literary prizes. Since his second book, Fighting for Air: The Battle to Control America’s Media, he has testified before the Federal Communications Commission and briefed the U.S Congress on his findings.
