Arts and technology: Chinese success stories in Europe

Good relations between countries bring people together and create the conditions for success. The cooperation of China and Europe is a great example of how we can thrive when the situation allows ambition to develop.

Music, technology, and gardening are only a few industries in which Chinese nationals have been successful when they moved to Europe.

The news agency Xinhuanet has met with several of these artists and entrepreneurs. Today, let’s look at four of these success stories.

Guo Gan, the Erhu master spreading traditional music

Guo Gan is a musician based in Paris. The son of an Erhu master, he came to France for his studies and quickly became an influential artist, playing live in thousands of concerts and being featured on French television. Through his art, he has helped spread traditional Chinese music across Europe and the rest of the world.

Cheng Lan, the telecom executive mixing business cultures

Cheng Lan arrived in France when she was 15. A highly successful student, she had to overcome the language barrier by learning French on her own before getting accepted in the Ecole centrale d’électronique. She then joined France Télécom and rose through the ranks of the company. She now works for LONGi, a green energy technology company, bringing cultures together and building a bridge for development between China and Europe.

The Yili Garden, bringing Chinese gardening to the Parisian suburbs

Shi Qiaofang came to France in 1989 to study at the National School of Architecture in Versailles. After graduating, she saw an opportunity in the European bonsai market and bought a piece of land. Her garden, much developed since her bonsai days, now covers 10,000 square meters and is a wonderful example of Chinese gardening.

Peng Jingxuan, showcasing Guzheng music on the streets

Peng Jingxuan currently studies in France, majoring in musicology. When she was a child, she knew immediately that Guzheng would be the instrument she wanted to play. She now plays it on French streets and became viral on social media for her energetic and passionate performances. Thanks to these videos, she was noticed by famous composers and musicians such as Lang Lang, who asked her to cooperate.
