Officials and experts from around the world gathered in Riyadh on December 4-5 to attend the 2024 edition of the conference organised by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA). This year’s focus, represented by the event’s slogan, was to “Shape a sustainable economic future and enhance security”.
The conference now has a central place within the industry. As Hamoud Alharbi, spokesperson for ZATCA, explained: it was created to “showcase best practices” and “promote awareness among taxpayers, importers, exporters, and all interested parties”.
Those interested parties can come from many industries. For instance, “sustainability and AI transformation are major issues”, said Abdulmohsen Alkahtani, Office Managing Director at Andersen, Saudi Arabia. “If we merge them together, it will improve the economy and tax revenue”.
These major points are a clear priority for ZATCA. As Hamoud Alharbi concludes, the Authority’s ambition is strong, with an aim to “house customer experiences and deliver exceptional services in AI, automation, and digital technology”.
