Three movies that are causing a lot of chatter on social media.
ADVERTISEMENTThe first trailer of the long-awaited Nina Simone biopic has caused huge controversy for starring Zoe Saldana in the lead role. Saldana, who is of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent, had to wear dark makeup and a prosthetic nose to portray the late jazz singer and civil rights activist. Simone’s family called the production “nauseating”.
Hopefully people begin to understand this is painful. Gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, nauseating, soul-crushing. It shall pass, but for now…

Another biopic, this time in the form of a painted animated movie that some critics are already calling it a masterpiece: “Loving Vincent,” which was partly funded through Kickstarter, tells the story of Van Gogh through hand-made oil paintings in his trademark swirling style. The movie features 120 of his works and its plot wove together 800 letters by the artist himself.

And “Ghostbusters” is back, 32 years after the franchise first hit theaters and became a worldwide hit. But this time the quirky scientists battling ghosts are all women. Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts from the original two films are said to make appearances. ‘Ghostbusters’ is slated for release this summer.
