MILAN (Reuters) - Italy's biggest bank by assets UniCredit confirmed the sudden death of its chairman, Fabrizio Saccomanni, on Thursday.

In a statement, the bank said Deputy Chairman Cesare Bisoni would take on Saccomanni's role pending the appointment of a new chairman.

Chief Executive Jean Pierre Mustier called the death of Saccomanni, a former economy minister and senior Bank of Italy official, a loss for the whole of Italy.
