(Reuters) - David Rowland, chairman of the Lloyd's of London between 1993 and 1997, has died, Lloyd's of London said in a statement on Monday. He was 85.

Rowland is credited with bringing structural changes to the company, which helped it combat and address the financial losses faced in the 1990s.

In its statement, the company said he played a critical role in safeguarding the firm's future during "perhaps its most difficult period".
