Manchester United survived a late scare to draw at home to Celta Vigo and reach the Europa League final on Thursday.
Leading 1-0 after the first leg, Marouane Fellaini headed Jose Mourinho’s men in front after 17 minutes but Facundo Roncaglia equalised with 5 minutes remaining to set up a tense finale as tempers flared at Old Trafford.
United, who will be without Eric Bailly after the defender was dismissed in the dying moments of the game, eventually won 2-1 on aggregate. They will next face Ajax Amsterdam in Stockholm on May 24 after the Dutch side overcame Lyon 5-4 on aggregate following a thrilling 3-1 defeat in France.
Alexandre Lacazette scored a brace and Rachid Ghezzal added another in the second half but it was too little too late as Peter Bosz’s men held on for the win.
Ajax manager: Peter Bosz: “When you’re going into the final, you have to win it. I think that we can go all the way. We proved that we can play against big teams. If we’re able to play our football, I think we can have a good result. “
United will play in their first Europa League final and their first European showpiece match since losing in the 2011 Champions League.
