LONDON - British energy regulator Ofgem has ordered five small energy suppliers to pay a total of 575,000 pounds ($770,000) for fees they owe relating to the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme, to help pay for renewable power generation.

Orbit Energy owes the most, at 451,296 pounds, with the other four suppliers, Whoop Energy, Simply Your Energy/Entice, Delta Gas and Power and Social Energy Supply, owing the remainder.

"If the suppliers fail to comply with the order, Ofgem may take further enforcement action and they could end up having their licences revoked or face a financial penalty," Ofgem said in a statement.
