ADVERTISEMENTAn air of ancient Egyptian luxury ruled the night as Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld brought his travelling fashion show to New York and its famous Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but the Parisian fashion brand's fans and sustainable fashionistas around the world had another good reason to set their eyes on the luxury brand.
Chanel has just announced that the fashion house would stop manufacturing products made from exotic animal skins, like snake, crocodile, lizard and stingray.
The president of Chanel fashion Bruno Pavlovsky reportedly said in an interview that the brand faced more and more difficulties to source high-quality pelts ethically.
Reportedly python skin bags have been removed from Chanel's official website, however, the president said it would take a while for existing products to leave their shops.
The fashion house also joins other luxury brands in committing to not using fur in its designs.
The move was hailed by animal rights groups, among them the international organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
