ADVERTISEMENTThe fashion industry's top designers, models and celebrity fans braved chilly winter weather in London on Monday to walk the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall ahead of the British Fashion Awards.
Fashion designer Stella McCartney became the inaugural recipient of the Special Recognition Award for Innovation at the event for her work in promoting animal rights and sustainability in fashion.
McCartney, who does not use leather, PVC or fur in her clothing, said in late November that the fashion industry needed to reform its approach to sustainability.
Other designers at the event were in agreement with McCartney, with Britain's Anya Hindmarch claiming sustainable fashion is 'high on the agenda in the industry' but that it will 'take time to change'.
Board member of crystal-producer Swarovski, Nadja Swarovski, also said she hoped to see more 'mindfulness' in the fashion industry about sustainability and wanted companies to research and develop in that area.
Britain's 25-year-old model Adwoa Aboah was named Model of the Year, beating the likes of Gigi and Bella Hadid as well as the star of America's Next Top Model Winnie Harlow.
A host of stars attended the awards in London including models Naomi Campbell and Karlie Kloss as well celebrities from outside the fashion world like Selena Gomez, Sam Smith, FKA Twigs, Rita Ora, Maisie Williams, Stormzy and Irina Shayk.
