Public sector trade unions in South Africa called for a one-day national strike to be held next week after talks with the government over wages collapsed. 

Public sector trade unions in South Africa called for a one-day national strike to be held next week after talks with the government over wages collapsed. 

The unions, representing hundreds of thousands of workers, vowed to stage picket lines and demonstrations outside hospitals, ports and government offices.

And they are calling for a wage hike of up to 10 per cent to respond to inflation.
