MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A small earthquake struck central Mexico City on Friday morning, jolting office towers and apartment buildings in the sprawling metropolis.
A temblor of magnitude 2.5 was registered in the central neighbourhood of Alvaro Obregon at 7:38 am, the National Seismological Service wrote in a post on Twitter.
There were no immediate reports of damages. The city's civil protection authority confirmed the magnitude and said they did not activate the local earthquake alarm due to the small size of the temblor.
Situated at the intersection of three tectonic plates, Mexico is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries, and the capital is particularly vulnerable due to its location on top of an ancient lake bed.
