(Reuters) - Manchester City have signed England striker Ellen White from fellow Women's Super League (WSL) outfit Birmingham City on a two-year contract on Thursday.

White, who has been named in England's squad for the World Cup in France starting June 7, left Birmingham after her contract expired following two years at the club during which she made 35 appearances.

The 30-year-old joins a City squad that won both the Women's FA Cup and Continental Cup this season but finished runners-up to Arsenal in the WSL.

"I want to be in an environment and with a group of players that have that same winning mentality, that same professionalism, that same commitment and passion (I do), and I think that's a great fit (for me) at City," White, who has been capped 80 times by England, said in a statement.

White has tasted domestic success with Arsenal between 2010 and 2013, winning two league titles, two FA Cups and three League Cups.
