(Reuters) - Stagecoach Group said on Wednesday it had begun legal action against Britain's Department for Transport after bids to renew existing East Midlands and West Coast rail franchises were disqualified due to concerns over pensions.

A claim has been issued today at the High Court in London, which alleges that the Department for Transport breached its statutory duties under provisions in connection with the procurement of the new East Midlands rail franchise, the company said.
