BERLIN (Reuters) - Austria is to withdraw consular protection for citizens who have fought for the Islamic State militant group, Die Presse daily reported on Wednesday, rejecting a call from the United States for allies to take back captured fighters and put them on trial.

"We will therefore not get these people back," Interior Minister Herbert Kickl was quoted as saying in the paper.

"People who have joined terror organisations and reject the basic values of Austrian society have no claim to help from Austria," the change in the law on consular support will say, reported Die Presse.
