BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's BDI industry association said on Thursday that it was important for industry to have a high-performing international German bank, adding it was up to Deutsche Bank <DBKGn.DE> and Commerzbank <CBKG.DE> to decide whether or not they merge.
"This is a decision that the companies have to make", BDI President Dieter Kempf told a news conference.
European bank regulators do not think Germany's two largest banks, Deutsche and Commerzbank, should merge, a source with direct knowledge of the matter said.
